2018 Enhancing Research in the Humanities and Arts Grant Recipient 

Dino Felluga was funded by Enhancing Research in the Humanities and Arts program to study the Pre-Raphaelite movement and its influence on the Aesthetic movement. The proposal, “The Pre-Raphaelites Online (PRO),” will address issues such as building the PRO resource and allowing Purdue to provide part of a US match for a new UK Arts and Humanities Research Council Networking grant that targets UK-US Collaborations in Digital Scholarships in Cultural Institutions. 

“I turned to the digital humanities in 1996 (with the creation of one of the first successful online scholarly journals, Romanticism on the Net) because I felt that the Internet offered solutions to some of the problems already beginning to hurt humanities scholarship, especially a misunderstanding by the general public about what exactly we do and why it’s important. In my teaching and research, I also study the transition between the medieval period and the Renaissance, which was aided by the Gutenberg print revolution. I’m keen, then, to think through how the digital revolution logically reshapes how we approach the dissemination of knowledge, which until recently has been constrained by the earlier technology of the codex book.” - Dino Felluga
